Bay Localize

The Center for Sustainable Economy proudly provides fiscal sponsorship for Bay Localize. A regionally focused non-profit organization, Bay Localize works to create strong localized green economies within the Bay Area.  They promote sustainability initiatives throughout the region with particular emphasis on energy, food security, housing, local manufacturing, social equity, transportation, and water security. Bay Localize is currently focusing on three main projects:

•    The Localization Asset Map.  The Localization Asset Map will chart out local organizations and specific projects working towards localization in the Bay Area as a resource to help educate the public and strengthen ongoing efforts.

•    Localization Strategy Initiative.  Bay Localize has joined with Center for Sustainable Economy, Redefining Progress, Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, and International Forum on Globalization to advance a comprehensive localization strategy for the 9-county Bay Area.  Launched at a summit held at the Oakland Mayor’s Office in May of 2006, the Strategy has now been endorsed by 23 government and non-government organizations and featured in a recent Bay Guardian exclusive.

•    Rooftop Resources Project.  Bay Localize is in the process of completing a survey and study to determine the potential of rooftops in the Bay Area as sites for gardens, energy production, and water catchments.  The study is to include a development plan in order to begin implementation of sustainable rooftop projects that generate economic and employment opportunities.
